Enter the retiree. I figured if Dan would tell me what buttons to push, I'd push them and he wouldn't have to do much except keep me out of trouble. Of course, he knew going into it that keeping me out of trouble wouldn't be easy. But interest was high and so it came to pass that the BIGGER weekend was resurected as the HUGE weekend.
I don't think we ever figured out what "HUGE" stood for, but here's what happened: |

Some time ago, a some friends of mine used to get together annually for a weekend event called the Boys Invitational Golf, Gambling and Eating Retreat (BIGGER) Weekend. They'd grovel to their wives, cashing in whatever brownie points they might have built up. It was always great fun. Then it stopped. Early this year I asked the leader of these expiditions, Dan Robinson, if this was because it had become too much for him to handle. "Pretty much." he replied. |

This year (as in most years past) the event was held at the Northstar complex just on the California side of Lake Tahoe near Truckee.
For those of you who are unaware of it, Lake Tahoe is really BIG! If you go to South Lake Tahoe, it'll take you over an hour to get to the north end of the lake, assuming you know the way. I'm not saying this for any real reason except that I thought you might like to know.
So after taking all due abuse for showing up after 10:00 p.m. Thursday, I joined the others in our lodge at 2005 Red Tail Ct. seen here. |

Inside, there was lots of room. There were 4 large bedrooms each with its own bath plus a 1/2 bath. There was a large TV with a DVD player which got plenty of use with the DVD's Larry Oliver had the good sense to bring (Robin Williams' routine on the invention of golf was a classic!)
Here we see Jim Schultz obviously absorbed with some video, and Jim Clancy absorbing some chips. I don't remember who the hand belongs to. |
