The Hawaiian Birthday Getaway
The Big Island
The Historic Park (March 2)
Left: My what a friendly place!  Of course, it turned out that there was another friendly sign that I missed that told me that the lot where I'd parked would close at 5:00, long before my stroll would be done.  Remember the Visitor Center I passed by?  Well, they called out to me to be sure I knew about that.   Now THAT'S friendy.  Embarassing, but friently.

Below:  But not THAT friendly.
Left - I soon came to a nice beach.  Not as sandy as I'd expected.  It turns out that The Big Island is also the newest.  In geological terms, it's a baby.  Beaches like they have on the other islands haven't yet formed.
Right: Ah, the promise of wildlife.  I never saw a sea turtle in the wild on this trip.  That's okay, I never saw a bear or moose in Alaska either.  Sometimes I think the National PArk Service makes this stuff up.

Below: I did, however, see a duck enjoying the day.
Right: Aha!  A historical artifact from pre-European days!  Kaloko Honokohau National Historical Park is new and I suspect improvements are on the way.  I thought it was okay, but looked forward to better things.
