Alaska - Skagway (September 2)
Left:  Oh no!  The Diamond Princess has RUN AGROUND!!  Okay, I lied.  It just looks that way.  According to the ship's log (we got copies!) we got here at 6:18 this morning.  Sorry I missed it.  Okay, I lied again.
Right:  Remember the petroglyphs in Misty Fjords?  Well, these aren't quite the attraction.  For the most part, these appeared to represent ships, but don't quote me on that.  Anyway, this was the view of Alaska's first incorporated city.
Left:  This is Harding Glacier nestled in the Kenai Mountains overlooking Skagway.  According to Wikipedia, then President Harding promised to visit and that was enough.  The article didn't mention if he ever got out there.  He was in Alaska when his health took it's big turn for the worse, and he later died in office.
Like Harding Glacier itself is dying in that, like most glaciers, it's receding faster than my hairline!
Right:  Gee, does it look like another bee-yoo-tee-ful day?  That's because it was.  It's about 11:45 and I'm hear to catch a boat to today's excursion.
Left:  A group of us are headed up Taiya Inlet, the longest fjord in North America.
Right:  Those big groovs on the coast are called "glacial striations".  It's hard to believe, but they were made by glaciers dragging boulders around.
