Wedding Tour - January, 2009
Adventures in the South Central
Las Vegas (Jan 15 - 19)
January 25, 2009, my niece Laura got married.  Rather than fly in, I decided to make a road trip out of it.  The plan (which I followed with great precision) was to head to Las Vegas, then L. A. to visit a friend, Tucson (for the weding), Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico, the Alamo and River Walk in San Antonio, Texas, the Oklahoma City Memorial, then finally Dodge City, Kansas.  Stops in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas would bring my 50 state pledge to 24 (plus D. C.) so I'd be just about half done with that quest.
Left: This is Inga.  She’s the perfect travelling companion.  She never seems to get lost and when she tells me where to go, she only does it in the nicest way.  She also has an off switch, as every travelling companion should.  I call her Inga because I assumed her accent to be Swedish until I was informed that it was just the synthetic speech that GPS’s use.  Darn.  I like my version better.
Right: My trip started with an uneventful trip to Las Vegas on January 15, 2009.  I stayed at the Stratosphere, the hotel with the highest point in the city.  Here you can see the breathtaking view from my room.
Left: Actually, you can go up the tower and be treated to great views of Las Vegas like this one on the left.  Of course, I have no picture of the tower itself since any fool can go to an internet browser and type in “LV Stratosphere” and find several websites with the photo.  That and I just forgot.
Right: For the more adventurous, one can take a ride that really puts you over the city.  They advertise it by advising you to bring an extra pair of underpants.  I passed on the offer thank you very much.  (What a wuss!)
Left: The parking garage at the Strat was perhaps as memorable as the view.  It’s impossible to find your car in it.  I ran into several others who shared my view.  I found this on level 4.  I wasn't sure, but I presumed it to be a monument to all those who died of exhaustion, starvation, or who in total exasperation, jumped to their deaths in their desperate search to find their cars.
